About the name

An escapement is the part of a mechanical watch that makes it tick. A mainspring holds all the power and would unwind in seconds if nothing stopped it.

The escape wheel pushes forward. The pallet fork catches it. The balance swings back and forth, and each swing lets the wheel advance one tooth. All that stored power comes out in small, even steps.

We try to make software the same way. Escapement Labs is a small company in Phoenix, Arizona, that makes apps and games and releases them in small steps.
